Decent Working Conditions Are the Foundation of Sustainable Development
Today in our country, human dignity, rights, and legitimate interests have been elevated to the level of the highest value. In this process, ensuring safe and comfortable working conditions for every employee is not only a legal obligation but also a moral duty. This objective underlies the activities implemented jointly by the administration of Gulistan State University and the trade union organization.
Employer’s Obligations and Responsibilities
According to the updated Labor Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the employer is required to provide each employee with a workplace that meets occupational safety and health standards. At our university, the following aspects are under constant supervision for academic staff and employees:
-
indoor temperature conditions;
-
lighting levels;
-
compliance with fire safety regulations.
Occupational Safety and Health: Key Areas
Occupational safety and health is not limited to technical safety alone. It is a comprehensive system of legal, socio-economic, and organizational measures aimed at preserving the physical and mental well-being of employees.
In our organization, employees regularly undergo free medical examinations. In addition, those working under hazardous conditions (such as laboratory staff and maintenance workers) are provided with special clothing, personal protective equipment, and dairy products.
Occupational Accidents and Prevention
Workplace accidents often occur due to negligence or lack of knowledge of safety regulations. As part of implementing the “Vision Zero” (Zero Injury) concept, the university is taking the following measures:
-
Safety briefings: introductory safety training is conducted for every newly hired employee.
-
Knowledge assessment: the knowledge of responsible staff on occupational safety is tested annually.
-
Technical supervision: electrical networks, elevators, and other technical equipment are regularly inspected.
Occupational Diseases: A Timely Concern
Occupational diseases are illnesses that develop as a result of prolonged exposure to harmful factors. In the education sector, these are mainly associated with nervous strain, vision impairment, or musculoskeletal disorders. The trade union considers it a priority to provide employees with preferential vouchers for health recovery not only at the workplace but also at recreation centers and sanatoriums.
We remind you: every accident can be prevented. This requires not only the employer’s responsibility but also strict adherence to discipline and safety rules by every employee.
In conclusion, it should be emphasized that employee health is a wealth of society. The Gulistan State University trade union will continue to stand firmly in defense of labor rights and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle for its members.
