History of the department.
The department was originally called the Department of Botany and Fundamentals of Agriculture, but on June 15, 1990 it separated from the Department of General Biology and Zoology and became an independent department.
The founder and first head of the department was a candidate of biological sciences, associate professor P.Khalkuziev. Pedagogical activities were conducted by such teachers as I. Shirinova (1993-1994), I. Urazboev (1994-1996), N. Khadjaeva (1996-2003), A. Dosmetov (2003-2005), N. Suleimanov (2005-2011) ... The department was created in August 2015.
The Department of General Ecology and Geography functioned from 2011 to August 2015 and in 2011-2015 the department was headed by the Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor A. Dustmetov. In 2012-2017. Head of the Department of Geographical Sciences A. Yuldashev. Currently, the department is headed by L. Karshibaeva, Candidate of Geographical Sciences.

Today the department is one of 6 departments of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Gulistan State University. In total, 19 professors-teachers work at the department. Of these, 2 professors, 7 candidates of sciences, 6 associate professors, 1 acting associate professor, 3 senior teachers, 6 teachers. There are 17 full-time employees. The average age of the teaching staff of the department is 37 years.
Scientific activity of the department.
Currently, the Department of Ecology and Geography has begun working on the project "Growing seedlings of the paulownia plant in the conditions of the Syrdarya region."
The department works on the scientific problems "Natural resources and protection of the Mirzachul oasis" and "Natural geochemistry of the Mirzachul oasis". The department continues research work in the specialties "Geoecology", "Natural geography", "Geophysics of landscapes", "Economic geography." use as a raw material for obtaining stimulants ".
At the department, 2 subject circles are organized. Members of the "Junior School", the teaching staff, talented students, teachers of academic lyceums in the region are involved in research work.
At the department in all areas of bachelor's degree, interfaculty disciplines "Ecology and environmental protection", "Ecology and nature protection" are taught in national and European groups in Uzbek and Russian languages. In total, 38 general educational, special and optional disciplines are taught to undergraduate students in the direction of "Ecology and Geography".
The teaching staff of the department has created textbooks for the disciplines taught, educational and methodological complexes, and seminars. Members of the department participate in international and republican scientific conferences with more than 100 scientific reports and have published more than 80 scientific articles in scientific publications. Over the past 2 years, the teaching staff has published 2 textbooks, 4 manuals, 2 monographs, 6 articles in SAC (Supreme attestation commission) -recognized journals, 14 scientific articles in foreign journals.
Favorable conditions have been created for the teaching staff and talented students to conduct active scientific research. In the educational field she participates using the international database Scopus, Web of Science through the "Procest" program, as well as articles in prestigious international scientific journals.
Cooperation of the department.
In its activities, the department has concluded agreements with universities in foreign countries. In particular, agreements were signed with the Russian State Pedagogical University, the Göttingen Geographical University of Germany, in Kazakhstan the Peoples' Friendship University named after Academician A. Kuatbekov, and on this basis an exchange of teaching staff was established.
Along with this, the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National University of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent State Pedagogical University named after Nizami, the Jizzakh State Pedagogical University, the Samarkand State University and 2 academic lyceums, as well as a number of schools in Syrdarya region, carry out mutual scientific and educational cooperation.
In addition, cooperation has been established with the Uzbek hydro meteorological center Committee, the Syrdarya regional department of the Republican Statistics Committee, the Syrdarya regional department of the State Committee for Nature Protection, the State Committee for the Ecological Movement and many other state organizations.
At present, practical work is being carried out in academic lyceums and schools to improve the effectiveness of teaching geography and ecology.
