Gulistan State University is proud to announce the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago. The TMW Center is led by Founder and Co-Director Dana L. Suskind.
This partnership integrates our university into a new international research incubator. Dostonbek Eshpulatov from the Department of Economics will serve as the Principal Investigator for this initiative on behalf of our institution.
Applying insights from behavioral economics, the project aims to better understand how caregiver expectations, knowledge, and beliefs influence early skill formation. The SPEAK tool is an innovative, computer-adaptive survey, developed by the TMW Center, that provides a reliable, precise, and quick (3-5 minutes) measure of adult knowledge regarding early childhood development. It draws from approximately 400 items across five key domains for children ages 0-5:
Literacy/language development
Social-emotional development
STEM learning
Dual language learning
Child-technology interaction
Through this global consortium, the joint research aims to build robust evidence on caregiver beliefs and child development. Together, participating institutions aim to transform early childhood research and data systems to help design more effective policies and advance the science of early skill formation worldwide.
Currently, our research team at the Department of Economics is on the verge of successfully completing the practical field survey data collection phase. We look forward to the valuable insights this data will yield and to collaborating with our international peers through virtual convenings and conferences over the next two years.
