November 15 — World Recycling Day!
Every year, several countries celebrate an important environmental date — World Recycling Day. The purpose of this day is to draw public and government attention to environmental pollution and the problem of limited resources.
Reducing household waste and landfills is one of the most crucial tasks for all countries, including Uzbekistan. Recycling helps address this issue by allowing the disposal of a significant portion of waste in a beneficial way while also conserving resources.
The increasing amount of waste and limited resources have become some of the most pressing issues today. Waste generation is rising year by year.
In developed countries, 40-60% of household and industrial waste is recycled.
What measures have been taken in Uzbekistan in this regard?
According to the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 15, 2020, a phased implementation of a separate waste collection system is being introduced:
1st stage — In 2021, in residential areas of Tashkent, waste collection points were categorized into "recyclable" and "non-recyclable" waste.
2nd stage — In 2022, in Tashkent, the collection of household waste divided into "recyclable" and "non-recyclable" categories began under the state unitary enterprise "Maxsustrans."
3rd stage — From 2024 to 2028, a phased implementation of a waste collection system by categories such as "recyclable," "non-recyclable," "organic," "hazardous household waste," and others will take place across the Republic.
